Egypt & Jordan Tour

Best time to go: October - April
Best for: Longer Journeys, River Cruises, Historical, First Time Visitor

Delve into timeless antiquity in two of the world’s most historically rich countries: Egypt and Jordan. This two-week private tour blends the wonders of the Nile with the treasures of the desert. So you travel from the Pyramids to Petra in a single, seamless journey. As ever, it is privately guided and can be tweaked as you wish.

Cairo and the Pyramids

You begin in Cairo, Egypt’s bustling capital. So you explore the Great Pyramids of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Then visit the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum. Afterwards, wander the colourful bazaars of Old Cairo. The Giza complex is a breathtaking start. You stay at the Belle Époque.

Luxor and the Nile

Next, fly to Luxor, ancient Thebes, and board your four-night Nile cruise. So that afternoon, explore the great temples of Karnak and Luxor. The following day brings the Valley of the Kings, with its painted royal tombs. You sail aboard the Acamar, a lovely small ship.

Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan

Then set sail down the Nile, pausing at the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo. So you see Edfu’s remarkably complete Temple of Horus. Then Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek. On arrival in Aswan, explore the beautiful Philae Temple. Here the desert sands meet the Nile in striking fashion.

R&R in Aswan

Next, disembark for two nights of mid-tour rest in Aswan. So you can visit the Nubian Museum and take tea on the Old Cataract terrace. For the keen, an optional flight reaches the temples of Abu Simbel. Otherwise, simply relax beside the Nile. You stay at the Mövenpick Resort Aswan.

Into Jordan: Amman and Jerash

Then fly to Amman, the capital of Jordan. So you head north to the surprisingly intact Roman city of Jerash. Afterwards, take an immersive walking tour of the capital. The ruins of Jerash are among the finest anywhere. You stay at The House Boutique Suites.

The Rose-Red City of Petra

Next, drive to Petra along the spectacular King’s Highway. So you stop at Madaba, Mt Nebo and the Crusader castle at Kerak. That evening, the moving Petra by Night awaits. The following day, explore the site in detail with a guide. The Rose-Red City is a highlight of any tour. You stay at the Old Village Resort.

Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea

Then head to the desert of Wadi Rum for a night under the stars. So you explore the red sands by 4×4 with a Bedouin guide. Finally, conclude on the shores of the Dead Sea for two days of rest. There you float in the buoyant water, with the option of Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan. You stay at the Hilton Dead Sea.

Where You Stay

Naturally, the hotels and ships add real character. In Egypt, the Belle Époque, the Acamar cruise and the Mövenpick Aswan. In Jordan, The House Boutique Suites, the Old Village Resort and the Hilton Dead Sea.

Who It Suits

Above all, this suits travellers fascinated by the ancient world. For example, it is ideal for a milestone history trip. Equally, it rewards anyone wanting two great destinations together. Couples and small groups enjoy it most.

Best Time to Travel

Generally, autumn to spring is ideal for both countries. By contrast, high summer is extremely hot on the Nile and in the desert. Winter, meanwhile, is mild and pleasant. So we tailor the timing to your plans. Either way, we advise on the ideal window for your dates.

From the Nile to the Desert

The joy here is the sheer sweep of history. First come the pharaohs of the Nile. Then the Nabataeans of Petra. Meanwhile, Roman Jerash and Lawrence’s desert add yet more layers. As a result, you traverse thousands of years in a fortnight.

A Restful Rhythm

For all it covers, the tour is well paced. So the Nile cruise carries you gently between temples. Then Aswan offers two restful nights. Finally, the Dead Sea rounds things off in calm. As a result, you never feel rushed.

Designed Around You

As ever, this is only a starting point. So we shape the pace, the ships and the hotels to suit. In the end, the tour is entirely your own.

A Bucket-List Journey

In the end, this is history on a grand scale. So you stand before the Pyramids, then the Treasury of Petra. Meanwhile, the comforts make the distances a pleasure. As a result, it is a true once-in-a-lifetime trip.

A Seamless Link

Crucially, the two countries join with ease. So a short flight carries you from Aswan to Amman. Meanwhile, we handle every transfer and detail. As a result, the journey flows from one wonder to the next.
