The Detail
The Old Village Resort was created from the ruins of a 19th century Jordanian village. The village was inhabited until the 1970s and is located in the hills above Petra, with stunning views over the Shara Mountains.
There are 136 rooms and suites at the Old Village Resort. These are set around a series of pathways and courtyards that feed out from the main square which acts as the hotels focal point. The restoration of the village has been incredibly thoughtfully completed. They used locally hewn stone to reflect the sense of culture and history of Jordan.
The cobbled lanes of Old Village Resort feature small courtyards, fountains, olive trees and ancient millstones. These lead to the cottages, that all have external entrances. All rooms vary somewhat, and are designed and feature Arabian dark and carved wooden furniture. There are mod-cons such as air-conditioning, crisp white linens, colourful rugs and soft furnishings, en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning and WiFi.
At the centre of the village, you find the Olive Tree restaurant. This serves both buffet and al la carte international cuisine. The Al Barraka cafe also serves drinks and snacks. The Village Resort has an indoor heated swimming pool, and a small fitness room.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the main entrance of Petra from the Old Village Resort.
