The Story

Best time to go: October - April
Best for: Historical, Cultural & Immersive, First Time Visitor

If you want to see India at its most colourful, spiritual and vibrant then you must consider Varanasi, the oldest inhabited city on earth. It is an evocative place, a complete attack on the senses, just utterly fascinating as you walk through its historic alleyways and ghats that line the holy Ganges River.  The sights and smells, people and architecture are for many a microcosm of India as whole and why you visit this amazing country. Spend two nights here, either right in the heart of the action overlooking the Ganges, or a little distant giving you time to reflect on your day’s adventures. There are now direct flights to Agra, meaning you can then see the unrivalled splendour of the Taj Mahal. Drive across to Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, and famous for its superb markets and Rajput architecture. We would then suggest driving to Udaipur and having the chance to experience a touch of rural India; those dusty, yet spell-bindingly charming rural villages, filled with sari-clad women going about their daily lives and men driving bullock carts across the verdant green paddy-fields. Drive onto Udaipur, Rajasthan’s most beautiful city that surrounds Lake Pichola. Take a boat out on the lake, before taking an immersive walking tour through the city with a private guide.

It goes without saying that you will have your own private driver, luxury vehicle and private expert guides. We have enhanced the day-to-day experiences with unique and insightful experienced, aimed to show you far more than a standard tour, yet immerse you in the colourful diversity that India has to offer. Stay in charming heritage boutique hotels, or luxury palace hotels (or even mix and match the two). Anything about this itinerary can be tweaked and customised, extended or shortened. We aim to tailor the itinerary to your interests and timeframe, adapting it to make India as a wonderful a place as we find it ourselves.

Customise Your Itinerary

We can tweak and change any element of this itinerary and you can depart on any day you want, add nights here and there, and we can fully customise your day-to-day experiences depending on your interests. Here are just a few ideas of many that we can look at and discuss when we come to plan your tailor-made itinerary.

Idea 1

You can always add on a visit the Khajuraho after Varanasi to see the superb Chandela Temple. You can then work your way through the village of Orchha and possibly also Gwalior on the way to Agra to rejoin the suggested route.

Idea 2

If you want to include a quick visit to Nepal, you can fly to Kathmandu and then take a flight down to Varanasi after seeing a little of the country

Idea 3

In Rajasthan, you can opt for adding on the city of Jodhpur or maybe a tiger safari in Ranthambore National Park.
