Best time to go: September, October, November, February, March, April & May
Best for: Cultural & Immersive, Historical, First Time Visitor
Combine the bustling souks of colourful Marrakech before experiencing the timeless Berber culture and stunning views in the High Atlas Mountains.
You firstly begin your time in Morocco in Marrakech. Marrakech is one of the closest destinations for those travelling from Europe, where you can find a different culture. Moreover, Marrakech was founded along the ancient trading route that linked the Sahara’s exotic regions with the cosmopolitan ports on the Mediterranean. What remains is particularly compelling.
Within the old city (Medina), you find an expansive market area, known as the souks. These narrow alleyways contain small shops selling almost everything imaginable. You will see leatherworkers, apothecaries, hand-made rug weavers, colourful lanterns and aromatic spices, to name but a few. You will walk through the souks with our expert guide. Furthermore, we love to show you some of the more hidden and secret parts of the souks, ensuring a far more immersive experience. You will spend two nights in Marrakech to begin your tour, staying in a traditional boutique Riad hotel right in the heart of the Medina.
It’s now time to venture into the High Atlas Mountains, a drive that only takes about an hour. This mountain range overlooks Marrakech and is snow-capped from November to March. Here you find the local Berber people who have lived on its hillsides for centuries. You will have two nights here, and we can tailor your experience depending on how you want to explore the Atlas Mountains. We can arrange some lovely day walks through remote villages to maximise your enjoyment of the natural landscapes. You also might want to get a little experience of the local culture, and we can take you into a local Berber home for a mint tea. In any case, you will want to relax by the pool, drink in hand, and admire the views!
Afterwards, return to Marrakech for your final three nights of R&R. We suggest that on your second visit to Marrakech, you stay in the Palmeraie area, located just outside of the city. Here the hotels are set within verdant gardens, and you also have the bonus of larger swimming pools and a suitably relaxing finale to your time in Morocco. We can also add some optional experiences depending on your interests. We could take you back into the souks and see some of the quirky museums and gardens, see a little more of the historical and cultural highlights, or maybe take a balloon flight over the stunning nearby Agafay Desert at sunrise. All our Morocco holidays are completely tailor-made, so we will work with you to create a hand-crafted selection of unforgettable experiences.
