The Detail
Without a doubt, the maxim, ‘small is beautiful’ could hardly be more appropriate for the charming hotel Dar Zemora. It lies in the Palmeraie outside Marrakech, a peaceful country house ‘dar’, surrounded by three acres of tranquil gardens. Moreover, you are just fifteen minutes from the lively Djemaa-el-Fna the Medina.
Approached through a traditional gatehouse up a drive of olive trees, the entrance to Dar Zemora is a striking circular domed reception hall. You firstly receive warm greetings from the charming manager set the tone of an intimate house party. In other words, as The Daily Telegraph wrote, ‘nothing is too much trouble for these hosts, you will not find a more romantic bolthole’.
Rooms
There are just six rooms at Dar Zemora. These are made up of three rooms and three suites. Mecilla, Safra and Bebra are the rooms that feature small balconies. The Perla Suite is upstairs and has a large private roof terrace. The Zahara Suite features its own private garden. The Pavilion Pool Suite is located in the gardens and has two bedrooms and a pool, so ideal for families.
Dining & Facilities
In addition, several gorgeous sitting rooms are decorated with a clever mixture of traditional Moroccan and contemporary chic. The excellent local cuisine is served in a dramatic and atmospheric dark red dining room. Likewise, there is always somewhere to kick back and relax.
Palm studded gardens dotted with secret hideaways are resplendent with roses, orange and lemon trees, bougainvillaea and hibiscus. A large swimming pool is a perfect spot for drinking in the garden’s scents and the overall sound of silence. There is also a separate treatment room for massages, which is a blissful retreat from the world. As indeed, Dar Zemora is in its entirety.
Millis Potter Insight
Firstly, we love Dar Zemora. In essence, you will find a verdant oasis away from the hubbub of the Medina. It’s a particularly homely boutique retreat. Moreover, the staff are so lovely and always there to make you smile. Likewise, the food is delightful.
We loved just sitting out on the lawn for long lunch washed down with some excellent white wine. However, it must be said that the rooms aren’t especially flashy. On the other hand, they really comfortable and stylish. All in all, Dar Zemora offers truly fantastic value for money. In short, we love the peaceful tranquillity here, and the chance to dip into Marrakech when you want on such a short drive.
