The Detail

Overview

The Mandarin Oriental is surrounded by fifty acres of landscaped gardens, olive groves and palm trees, complemented by the stunning backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains. Here you find the quintessential luxury oasis. There are a number of lovely resorts to open just outside of Marrakech, and the Mandarin Oriental has, in many ways, found the perfect formula.

The architecture is modern, yet retaining a Moroccan charm through riad inspired courtyards and local Berber design.

Rooms

The villas and suites are located in the gardens. You will have an inner central courtyard, and all have a private swimming pool and hot tub. When the winter draws in, and the snow appears on the peaks of the Atlas Mountains, you can make use of the outdoor open fireplace. The bathrooms feature sunken bathtubs and walk-in steam showers.

Restaurants

There are three restaurants – Mes’Lalla offers fine dining, Ling Ling Chinese fare paired with superb cocktails, Le Salon Barbiere is the setting for breakfast before becoming a tea lounge and champagne bar later in the day. The Pool Garden Restaurant is perfect for an alfresco lunch. In addition, you can opt for in-villa dining, with a table set up in your courtyard.

Facilities

The Spa is superb, with a range of treatments or just a traditional hammam. The Mandarin Oriental also has a large indoor pool, gym and tennis courts.

Millis Potter Insight

There are many superb hotel resorts just outside of Marrakech. So many have tried to create that perfect balance of space, Moroccan charm and luxury. With the Mandarin Oriental, the formula has finally worked. For example, we think hotels like the Selman, Palais Namaskar and Amanjena all didn’t quite live up to the billing. Here, the Mandarin Oriental certainly goes into first place.
