This wonderful private journey combines the cultural delights of Jordan with historic Jerusalem. So you are immersed in biblical landscapes steeped in history. Together, they reveal countless stories that shaped the region, and the world. You are looked after by carefully chosen private guides and drivers throughout. As ever, every element can be tailored to you.
Amman and Jerash
Begin in Amman, the capital of Jordan. So it is well worth visiting the Roman city of Jerash while you are here. Then explore the capital itself on a walking tour. Along the way, you see the Citadel, the Roman theatre and the souks. The ruins of Jerash are wonderfully complete.
The King’s Highway to Petra
Next, head south along the historic King’s Highway to Petra. So you stop at Madaba, with its 4th-century mosaic of the Holy Land. Then continue to Mt Nebo, where Moses looked out over the Promised Land. You arrive in Petra in the late afternoon, in time for Petra Kitchen. You stay at the Mövenpick Petra.
The Rose-Red City
The next day, delve into the archaeological wonders of Petra with a private guide. So you spend the morning at the main sights, then climb to the Monastery after lunch. The afternoon is free to explore the more hidden side of Petra. Most of its 800 monuments are carved from solid rock. The Rose-Red City never fails to move.
A Day in Wadi Rum
Then take a day trip to Wadi Rum, the vast desert that was Lawrence’s base in the First World War. So you spend two hours exploring with a Bedouin guide by 4×4. As you go, towering rock formations rise from the red sand. The desert is unforgettable. Afterwards, you return to Petra for the night.
R&R on the Dead Sea
Next, drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, for a midway rest. So you float in the famously buoyant water and unwind by the pool. For those with a biblical interest, we suggest Bethany-beyond-the-Jordan, said to be where Jesus was baptised. You stay at the Kempinski Ishtar or the Hilton.
Crossing into Jerusalem
Then head to the Allenby Bridge to cross the border into Israel. So you transfer to Jerusalem for three nights, into the heart of the Holy Land. The next day, explore the city with a private guide. You might see the Shrine of the Book and the model of ancient Jerusalem. The city of Jerusalem is sacred to three faiths.
The Old City and Bethlehem
Another day takes you deep into the Old City. So you begin on the Mount of Olives, then descend to the Garden of Gethsemane. You touch the Western Wall, the last remnant of the Second Temple. Then walk the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. A further day visits Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity.
Where You Stay
Naturally, the hotels are lovely throughout the Jordan leg. First, the Four Seasons Amman or The House Boutique Suites. Then the Mövenpick Petra, close to the gate. Finally, the Kempinski Ishtar on the Dead Sea. In Jerusalem, we choose a characterful base in the city.
Who It Suits
Above all, this suits travellers drawn to history and faith. For example, it is ideal for those exploring biblical sites. Equally, it rewards anyone wanting two countries in one trip. Couples and small groups enjoy it most.
Best Time to Travel
Generally, spring and autumn bring the most comfortable weather. By contrast, high summer is very hot inland. Winter, meanwhile, is mild, with gentle Dead Sea sun. So we tailor the timing to your plans. Either way, we advise on the ideal window for your dates.
Two Lands, One Journey
The magic lies in the contrast. First, Jordan dazzles with desert and carved cities. Then Jerusalem stirs the soul with sacred history. Meanwhile, the border crossing links them seamlessly. As a result, you experience two very different worlds in one trip.
A Journey Through Faith
Few routes touch so many sacred sites. So you stand where Moses gazed at the Promised Land. Later, you walk the Via Dolorosa in the Old City. Meanwhile, Bethany and Bethlehem add further depth. As a result, the trip resonates long after you return.
Designed Around You
As ever, this is only a starting point. So we shape the pace, the hotels and the sights to suit. In the end, the journey is entirely your own.
A Memorable Pairing
In the end, few combinations resonate quite like this. So you move from Petra’s grandeur to Jerusalem’s sanctity. Meanwhile, the whole journey feels seamless and considered. As a result, it lingers in the memory for years.
