The Story

Best time to go: October - April
Best for: Culture & Beach

One of slight puzzling aspects of travelling to India is just where to fit on a beach stay at end. You have Goa or Kerala, but in many ways the hotels and destination don’t always meet expectations. You can nip across from Oman or Dubai, or even fly the other way and try Thailand or Malaysia (but you have a really long flight on the way back). Some are now choosing Sri Lanka more and more but the best beaches down there are a long way from Colombo Airport. Now with better flight links, the Maldives is coming back into vogue. The flight from Delhi connects easily in Cochin with Spice Jet, making it a fairly long, but doable journey.

You can do as much or as little in India as you want before continuing your holiday to the Maldives, but we think an ideal introduction is to take in the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. You can of course add on places like Ranthambore for tigers, or head deeper into Rajasthan to see places like Udaipur and Jodhpur. What this does allow you for a two-week trip that is equally matched with a cultural element and time on the beach to end.

Begin in Delhi, and it’s worth spending two days here exploring the city with a private guide. Nip down to Agra on the train and marvel at the sheer beauty of the Taj Mahal. Continue across to Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan and packed with those amazing forts and palaces that you might have read about. Mingle through the old bazaars on a heritage walking tour and maybe opt for an elephant safari through the countryside just outside of the city. You then head back to Delhi for a night before taking the flight, via Cochin to the Maldives. We can offer you any sort of resort in the Maldives, and a quick conversation will allow us to match the place that you will feel most at home.
