The Detail

Baros is just a 20-minute speedboat transfer from the Maldives’ main international airport, making perfect for a post-tour beach stay of India or Sri Lanka, or even a fantastic resort to spend a week or more just soaking up the winter sun. Baros doesn’t except children under 12, so it retain a peaceful and refined atmosphere. The island just takes about 10 minutes to walk around, yet is fitted with all the facilities you would want.

There are 75 villas in total, hand-crafted to blend in with their natural surroundings using sandstone and timber in equal measure and with beautiful thatched roofs. All villas come with all the mod-cons; high-speed WiFi, espresso machines and flatscreen TVs. The Deluxe Villas are based beside the beach and have huge outdoor bathrooms at the rear set within a tropical garden, and a little garden that opens out directly onto the beach.  The Baros Villas are larger still, coming with a bigger front  garden. Again on land, you can opt for a Baros Pool Villa which comes with a small plunge pool in the garden. The Premium Pool Villas have the added benefit of a separate jacuzzi. Over-water you can opt for a Water Villa with or without a plunge pool.

Back on land, there are a choice of three restaurants and two bars. Lime is set over the lagoon, Cayenne Grill is also over-water serves up scrumptious platters of seafood. Lighthouse is Baros’ fine dining restaurant, with superb food and wine to match. You can opt for al fresco dining on the beach, or in-villa dining. It goes without saying Baros has a superb spa, Aquum. The house reef is superb for snorkelling and the diving options are extensive. There is also a lovely main swimming pool for guests who might not want to dip into the lagoon.

Millis Potter Insight

Baros is one of our favourite Maldivian resorts offering exceptional villas, some coming with their own private pool. The lead-in Deluxe Villas are exceptionally well-priced when you compare them with other resorts, and the large outdoor bathrooms are wonderful. Baros has an elegant, refined feel about the place, perfect for couples and honeymooners who don’t want to see children screeching about the place (there are no children under 12). They don’t offer an all-inclusive rate, but you can opt for a Half Board dine-around, meaning you can eat in any of the restaurants and get breakfast and dinner included.
