The Oberoi Gurgaon is situated is to Delhi’s up and coming business district, but acts like an oasis retreat away from the bustling heart of Delhi. It is ideal for a leisurely start or end to a tour of Delhi, without having to take the often traffic-congested drive into the centre of town. The Oberoi Gurgaon is spread over nine acres of landscaped grounds, and as you enter you very much feel like you are leaving the city behind you. The design is very low rise in style, surrounded by a moat of pools and water-features ensuring a calming atmosphere all round. There are designer outlets (Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Jimmy Choo), making this very much a modern realisation of what India is about. In many respects, you will probably then head off to see the India of old such as the great palace hotels, so this is a nice juxtaposition. The modern design uses ample use of glass to create a light and airy feel. There are 202 rooms at The Oberoi Gurgaon, and the rooms are certainly some of the largest of their type in Delhi, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows As with such a new hotel, they come with ultra-modern amenities, all with separate bathtubs and showers, huge TVs and associated gadgetry. As you go up through the room types, you get even more space and better views. The Suites offer living spaces, with the Premier Suite even having your own private pool.
Dining is a big part of The Oberoi Gurgaon, and there is something for everyone’s palette. The all-day dining ThreeSixtyOne opens out onto a terrace overlooking the main water feature, and is lovely to just sit out there in the evenings. Amaranta is a speciality Indian Restaurant serving exceptional dishes. There is also the Piano Bar with an extensive drinks list. The Oberoi Gurgaon has a huge spa which is ideal after a long flight, as well as a modern Fitness Centre. The Swimming Pool is vast, and is actually larger than Olympic size. You can of course base yourself at The Oberoi Gurgaon and spend a day exploring Delhi to see the sights before returning back to the peaceful surroundings of the hotel by night. It takes about 45 minutes or so to drive to the centre of town so you can set off on a day’s excursion, having lunch in town before returning back to Gurgaon in the afternoon.
