Best time to go: October Half Term, Christmas Holidays & February Half Term & Easter Holidays
Best for: Family Holidays, Culture & Beach, Cultural & Immersive
There is so much that will excite your children on a family holiday to Oman. Tales of Arabian nights, of vast golden deserts, bustling souqs, dramatic mountain scenery, turtle watching, and ending with some well-deserved beach time. You will have your own driver/guide throughout, so the family can sit back and take it all in.
Spend your first two nights in Muscat. Set out to explore the superb Daymaniyat Islands which offer fabulous snorkeling, and the chance to see dolphins. For more cultural families, we can arrange for you to see a little of Muscat. Stroll through exotic souqs, fish markets, and visit the grand mosque.
You will then drive south, where the children will love a chance to dive into a wadi. We suggest stopping at Wadi Arbaeen, which is less busy than many of the more well-known wadis. You can stop at the dramatic Fins and Tiwi Beaches on the way to Raz Al Jinz Beach. Here, you can set out that night to see turtles nesting.
The next day, set out to Wahiba Sands (now known as Sharqiya Sands). This vast desert has dunes rising to 600 feet. You will spend time doing the obligatory dune-bashing, which your children will obviously think is terrific. Spend a night in an authentic desert camp and set off as a family on camels at sunset. Return to a delightful Arabian barbecue in your camp.
The next day takes you up to the mountains. We suggest breaking the journey you can stop at another remote wadi for some cooling off time. You will spend a couple of days in the mountains, doing some short walks tailored around the age of your children. For older families, we can up the adventure levels and add in mountain biking.
Finally, head back via the dramatic off-road route to Muscat, taking in Wadi Bani Awf. Spend three nights of gentle R&R, or as your children will see it – pool and beach time.
We can tailor any of this itinerary, and if you only have a week at Half Term, we can tighten the itinerary to make it all fit with the time you have to play with.
