The Story

Best time to go: October - April
Best for: Adventure & Off-the-beaten track, Trekking & Walking, Cultural & Immersive, Repeat Visitors

If you like getting far off the tourist trail during an adventure to India, yet want to stay somewhere incredible at night, then the area just to the west of Nepal and north of Delhi is a delightfully refreshing secret! You’ll be dipping your toes into the foothills of the Himalayas, with the high-peaks of the Siwalik Range looking down on you. You’ll spend a few days walking through the foothills, seeing the mesmerising local culture as you go. Each night you’ll stay in a village house where the rooms have been totally refurbished, meaning it is almost like staying in a boutique hotel. The houses are only ever taken exclusively, meaning you simply won’t see other tourists, and even then only a handful of people do this every year ensuring the communities absolutely love showing off their patch of India. This might mean being invited into local homes, meeting the high and mighty, or attending a local wedding or festival – the element of serendipity in this part of India is what it’s all about. Move north, right under the snow-capped peaks, to stay at 360 Leti, probably India’s most off-the-beaten-track luxury lodge. There are just four stone cabins here on four corners of a plateau, which each then have floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the amazing views. Take day treks in the hills (again no tourists to be seen), or just sit on your terrace, drink in hand, very much smiling. Drive towards the foothills and stop at the lovely colonial-era Mary Budden Estate. Take walks in the wildlife sanctuary or just relax, enjoying being away from it all.

    Customise Your Itinerary

We can tweak and change any element of this itinerary and you can depart on any day you want, add nights here and there, and we can fully customise your day-to-day experiences depending on your interests. Here are just a few ideas of many that we can look at and discuss when we come to plan your tailor-made itinerary.

    Idea 1

We can of course shorten the itinerary, maybe taking out the stay in Binsar at Mary Budden Estate or at Sitla Estate (we do think they are worth it though!)

    Idea 2

If you don't like the long journeys, we can look into chartering a private helicopter.

    Idea 3

Extend your stay in Rajasthan, or add on a beach element to conclude your trip in style?
