Idea 1
We can certainly extend your time in Bhutan, maybe adding a stay in the capital Thimphu or extending your stay down to Gangtey or Bumthang
Amazing memories make for the perfect honeymoon. Happily, a visit to Bhutan is packed with them. From walks through pristine countryside to immersive experiences, you have five days to soak it all up. Beginning in Kathmandu, you first relax after the wedding. Then comes the adventure, before a beach finale in Thailand. We stay in the two Uma lodges, both wonderful for honeymooners. As ever, the whole trip is private and tailored to you.
Begin at Dwarika’s Dhulikhel, perched on the rim of the Kathmandu Valley. From here, the views over the Himalayan skyline are wonderful. So, after the wedding, simply let it all sink in. You might pop down to the spa, or sit by the pool. It is the gentlest possible way to begin married life.
Next, fly to Bhutan and drive to Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass. That evening, head to Punakha Dzong for prayers. The next day, walk to the Khamsum Chorten for dramatic valley views. At a 15th-century temple, you hoist prayer flags, consecrated by a local monk for happiness and long life. Back at Uma Punakha, there is even a playful husband-versus-wife archery contest.
Then drive to Paro, stopping at Chimi Lhakhang en route. There a local lama gives you your traditional Bhutanese names, based on your astrology. On arrival, take a sunset walk to Drukgyel Dzong. The next day brings the trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, about four to five hours. Afterwards, put your feet up at Uma Paro, or cycle the countryside. National Geographic captures the magic of the climb wonderfully.
Another day, head up to the Haa Valley via the Chele Pass. So you glimpse an off-the-beaten-track corner of Bhutan. There you stop for a picnic lunch beside the river. For a little fun, we can arrange bikes. So you free-wheel all the way from the high pass back to Paro.
Finally, fly to Bangkok and the Peninsula for the night. That evening, sip cocktails at a famous skybar before dinner. The next day, fly to Phuket and on to Six Senses Yao Noi for five nights. So the honeymoon ends on one of Thailand’s loveliest beaches. There you might take a private boat out at sunset. Above all, you simply relax together.
The magic lies in the contrast. First, the stillness of the Himalayas calms you both. Then a little adventure adds a spark. Finally, the beach lets you simply be together. So you get romance, culture and rest in one trip. As a result, it is a honeymoon that has it all.
Naturally, every hotel is chosen with care. First, Dwarika’s Dhulikhel sets a serene tone. Then the two Uma lodges, Punakha and Paro, are romantic bases in Bhutan. Finally, the Peninsula and Six Senses round things off in Thailand. Of course, each is somewhere special.
Generally, spring and autumn suit Bhutan for clear views. Thailand, meanwhile, is best in its drier winter season. Happily, the two windows overlap well. So we plan the trip around both. Either way, we advise on the ideal timing for your dates.
What sets this honeymoon apart is the detail. So we weave in moments made for two. For example, a private picnic in a mountain meadow. Equally, a playful archery contest between you. Later, a sunset boat off the Thai coast. As a result, the memories are wholly your own.
The contrast is the whole point. First, Bhutan brings culture and calm. Then Thailand brings warmth and indulgence. Meanwhile, the journey between feels seamless. As a result, you enjoy mountains and beach without compromise.
As ever, this is only a starting point. So we shape the pace, the hotels and the beach to suit. In the end, the honeymoon is entirely your own.
The order matters on a honeymoon. So we begin with rest, not rush. After the wedding, the mountain retreat lets you breathe. Meanwhile, the spa and the views do their quiet work. As a result, you reach the adventure relaxed and ready.
Above all, this suits couples wanting romance and adventure. For example, it is ideal straight after a wedding. Equally, it rewards any milestone celebration. As a result, it remains one of our most romantic journeys.
In the end, the magic is the mix. So you enjoy mountains, culture and beach in one trip. Meanwhile, the pace shifts gently from calm to adventure to rest. As a result, neither of you ever tires of it. Put simply, it is a honeymoon with everything.
Not at all, though it is perfect for one. The same blend suits any special celebration. We simply tailor it to the occasion.
Yes. A Buddhist monk can perform a blessing in Bhutan. The prayer-flag ceremony at Punakha is especially moving.
It is a steady climb of a few hours. So a reasonable level of fitness helps. You can also stop at the halfway viewpoint.
Entirely. The pace, hotels and beach are all shaped around you. Simply share your dates and interests, and we will craft the rest.
