Rajasthan is sometimes unfairly looked over as a wonderful honeymoon destination, with many feeling there is too much hustle and bustle and chaos for it to be truly suitable. We completely disagree, and with a carefully constructed itinerary, you only have two nights in a city (one in Mumbai and another you have a room overlooking the Taj Mahal, so that doesn’t really count). You get to delve into the countryside, into the off-the-beaten-track rural heartlands where India just becomes so utterly beautiful. Begin by flying to Bombay (now called Mumbai), and staying for a night. We suggest heading to a roof-top bar for cocktails as the sunsets and then trying out one of the city’s amazing restaurants. Stay for the night at the top hotel, the Taj Mahal. Fly up to Udaipur, Rajasthan’s most picturesque city and stay here for three days, perfect just to sit back and relax after the wedding. Stay at the superb Devi Garh Fort Palace, the perfect place to begin your honeymoon in style. Fly to Jaipur and head into the surrounding countryside for two nights at Amanbagh, another exceptional hotel. They can even set up dinner in an old temple that can be coated in candles as you sit down to a gourmet al fresco dinner. Wander through the villages and farmland, seeing a timeless India that modern life simply hasn’t reached. Drop down to Ranthambore National Park for two days of safari. The park is famous for its excellent tiger sightings and you’ll stay at a luxury tented camp. Hop on the train to Agra (a little honeymoon adventure in itself) and stay for a night. Your room will have a balcony overlooking the Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz in the 17th century. See the Taj at sunrise, before driving directly to Delhi Airport (no need to see the city on a honeymoon) and flying the relatively short distance to Muscat where you can spend three nights or longer in the luxury Chedi Hotel on the beach.

Day 1

Mumbai

Fly into Mumbai and spend the night. Mumbai is a fascinating city, and what better way to kick off the honeymoon than heading out to watch the sunset at the rooftop bar called Dome. Continue to one of Mumbai’s top restaurants for dinner.

Day 2

Udaipur

Fly to Udaipur and transfer to the amazing Devi Garh Fort Palace, located about 40 minutes north of the city. Just sit back, look out at the amazing views over the village of Delwara and smile. They can arrange a private dinner on the ramparts.

Day 3-4

Udaipur

Spend two days doing as much or as little as you want. It might be worth heading into Udaipur to explore this most picturesque of Indian cities, being looked after my a private guide and exploring the city on an immersive walking tour. Take a private boat out on the lake before returning to Devi Garh. There are a couple of interesting day trips you can do from Devi Garh, such as exploring ancient temples and forts, and visiting rural villages and communities. That said, just relaxing by the pool and enjoying the blend of old fort, and chic minimalist design of Devi Garh is certainly appealing too.

Day 5-6

Amanbagh

Fly to Jaipur where you have the option of seeing the city with a private guide before driving to Amanbagh, which is about two hours away, tucked away in a completely off-the-beaten track corner of rural Rajasthan. Head out at dusk to see the farmers come back in from the hills. You can opt for a range of day excursions which we can discuss, but we do suggest opting the a private dinner in a former Hindu shrine, coated in candles. It’s such a memorable experience.

Day 7-8

Ranthambore National Park

Drive three hours down to Ranthambore National Park, home to the Royal Bengal Tiger and a host of other animals and bird species. Spend two nights at the amazing Sher Bagh, where you stay in a luxury tent. Spend your mornings and late afternoons on game drives, with the rest of the time relaxing by the pool or reading a book on your veranda.

Day 9-10

Agra

Take the train to Agra which takes about two and a half hours, and stay in the unforgettable Oberoi Amarvilas which has a balcony overlooking the Taj Mahal. That evening, why not have a private dinner as the sun sets over the Taj. The next day, explore the Taj Mahal at sunrise before seeing a little of the city with a private guide. See Agra Fort and the Baby Taj before wandering through the local villages on the other side of the Yumana and reaching Mehtad Bagh to see the Taj from the other direction.

Day 11-14

Muscat

Drive to Delhi, which takes about four hours and board the late afternoon flight to Muscat, which is a three hour flight. Once you land, you are close to the Chedi where you can kick back and enjoy four or more nights on the beach.
