Uma Punakha is located up the Mo Chhu River, about 20 minutes from the fantastic Punakha Dzong, but within easy access of a range of reinvigorating walks that you can take in the surrounding countryside. Look over fertile paddy fields and forested hillsides from the terrace. The views are simply some of the best you will find of any hotel in Bhutan. Punakha has an elevation of just 900 metres, so it is warm even in the winter months meaning al fresco dining is a must.
There are just 11 rooms, all with wonderful views. Opt for the downstairs room and you get a private terrace to sit back and soak up the views. Upstairs you get a floor to ceiling window with a little more space. There are two larger villas, offering even more privacy and outdoor space with either one or two bedrooms. Rooms have TVs, large bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers.
There is one restaurant, with indoor and outdoor space (they have heaters if it gets too cold) and the food is sublime, and it is said the Bhutanese Royal Family often pop along for a quick bite to eat. The central reception area is cosy, and opens out onto the terrace. There is a small COMO Shambala Spa offering a range of treatments.
