Idea 1
If you don't fancy walking back from Annapurna Base Camp, we can send up a helicopter which allows you to see even better views.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek is quite simply dramatic. You walk right into the Annapurna Sanctuary, ringed by some of the highest mountains on earth. With us, you have a private guide and porters. So you trek entirely at your own pace. We also use the best possible lodges throughout. As you climb higher, the accommodation grows simpler. Even so, we add little luxuries to keep you comfortable. As ever, the whole trek is private and tailored to you.
The Sanctuary is the heart of this trek. It is a natural amphitheatre, ringed by giant peaks. So you walk in beneath Annapurna South, Machhapuchhare and more. Each day, the mountains draw a little closer. As a result, the sense of anticipation builds steadily. In short, few treks build to such a finale.
Begin in Kathmandu, with an afternoon tour of the city. The next day, fly to Pokhara and drive to Lumle. From there, walk three hours to Birethanti and Sanctuary Lodge. The following day climbs the ridge to Ghandruk and Himalaya Lodge, about five hours. Then continue to Chhomrong, with its first great views of the peaks ahead.
From Chhomrong, the trail drops to a river, then climbs again. So you pass through forests of orchids, ferns and bamboo. Soon you reach Dovan, then alpine Deurali. Next comes Machhapuchhare Base Camp, above the tree-line. Here we suggest climbing a little higher to aid acclimatisation. With luck, you may even spot the local blue sheep.
Then comes the highlight of the whole trek. You walk into the heart of the Sanctuary itself. All around, giant peaks rise sheer above you. So you reach Annapurna Base Camp, at 4,130m, for the night. Best of all, wake before dawn for the sunrise. As the sun climbs, the snow turns slowly pink. It is, quite simply, an unforgettable sight.
Afterwards, you retrace your steps down the valley. First, walk back to the small village of Himalaya. Then continue towards Chhomrong, with a few ups and downs. Later, take a different route via Jhinu Danda and its hot springs. Then climb to Landruk and the welcoming La Bee Lodge. Finally, a 4×4 carries you back to Pokhara.
What sets this trek apart is the comfort. Lower down, the lodges are exceptionally comfortable. Higher up, you stay in traditional tea houses. Even there, though, we bring fresh sheets and pillows. So the little luxuries make all the difference at altitude. As a result, you sleep well and trek strong.
Back in Pokhara, you stay at Temple Tree. So you can put your feet up by the pool. Equally, head to a lakeside restaurant for a well-earned meal. Then fly back to Kathmandu for a final night. A superb spa there is perfect for ironing out any trekking niggles.
The route is flexible to suit your time and energy. For those in a hurry, a helicopter can lift you from Base Camp. So you fly directly back to Pokhara rather than walking out. Equally, we can adjust the daily distances. As ever, the trek is shaped entirely around you.
Generally, spring and autumn bring the clearest skies and finest views. They also offer the safest trekking conditions. By contrast, the monsoon and deep winter are best avoided. So we plan the route around the seasons. Either way, we advise on the ideal window for your dates.
Above all, we want you to enjoy the climb. So a private guide watches the group closely. Meanwhile, porters carry the heavy bags. Because the pace is yours, you never feel rushed. As a result, you arrive at Base Camp tired but elated.
Before the trail, you ease in at The Inn at Patan. So a private guide shows you the city’s highlights. We have only one night here by default. Of course, we can easily extend it. As a result, you start the trek properly settled.
Above all, this suits keen walkers chasing a real summit. For example, it is ideal for a bucket-list adventure. Equally, it rewards those who want comfort with their challenge. Couples, friends and solo trekkers all enjoy it.
Put simply, this is one of the world’s great walks. So the Sanctuary finale stays with you for life. Meanwhile, the little luxuries make the climb a pleasure. In the end, it is an achievement to treasure.
Finally, the trip flexes around you. For example, add nights in Kathmandu before or after. Equally, combine the trek with wildlife at Chitwan. As ever, every detail is shaped to suit your plans.
It is a genuine mountain trek, with several five-hour days. So a good level of fitness helps. That said, porters carry the bags and the pace is yours.
The trek reaches Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130m. So we build in time to acclimatise along the way. Your guide watches everyone carefully.
Yes. A helicopter can collect you from Base Camp and fly you to Pokhara. So it suits those short on time too.
Generally, spring and autumn are best. We will advise on timing for your dates.
