The Detail
Uma Paro was the first luxury resort to open in Bhutan and was a pioneer in presenting the country as a luxury destination. The hotel is on a hillock overlooking the Paro Valley below and surrounded by a 38-acre pine forest. The main lodge retains a Bhutanese style, yet the rooms are chic and minimalist with the odd dash of hand-printed Bhutanese wall paintings.
You find twenty rooms within the main lodge, and we suggest opting for the Valley View Rooms for obvious reasons. Within the grounds, there is a range of one or two-bedroom villas. The restaurant is exceptional (complete with superb views), and they prepare a range of international and local dishes with many of the ingredients sourced from their organic garden.
