Little Petra (or Siq-al Barid), is located about 9km from Wadi Musa, the town where you generally stay when visiting Petra. It is a small form of Petra is every sense, and you enter the site through a smaller version of the Siq, or canyon. You firstly come to what was likely a temple, fronted by a portico, below which is a little rock-cut house. You continue into the site, with the Painted House being of particular interest, showcasing one of the very few Nabatean painted interiors. 

You can use Little Petra as a starting point for the ‘Backdoor to Petra’ walk, taking about 2-3 hours, where you arrive at the Monastery.
