The Oberoi Zahra is right up there with some of the most luxurious river cruise ships anywhere in the world, let alone in Egypt. She cruises from Aswan to Luxor. In addition, on the longer 7-night cruise, you also see the wonderful Dendera and Abydos Temples.
There are just 25 suites and two suites on the Zahra. Moreover, these have large windows which overlook the Nile. The design is chic and minimalist, with sleek timber flooring. Bathrooms have a walk-in shower (with a Nile view) and a lovely tiled finish. The Luxury Suites are 50sqm with a separate living area, and come with a private terrace and also a standalone bathtub as well as a shower. Cabins have free WiFi and also the services of a 24-hour butler. Above all, you won’t find better cabins onboard any ship cruising the Nile. However, do note that cabins are larger on Oberoi’s refurbished sister ship, The Oberoi Philae.
Gourmet dining is available is taken in the Oberoi Zahra’s ‘The Restaurant’, always on an al la carte basis. Club Lounge is where to take a pre-dinner aperitif or late-night cocktail (or two). Live music is played each evening, and they also put on Nubian musical performances. The Library and Cigar Lounge is located on the top deck and is a more relaxed affair.
A big plus point for The Oberoi Zahra is the spa, with four therapy rooms that come with a steam room and shower. The swimming pool is located on the upper deck and is 11 metres long – much larger than many ships’ pools that are ornamental rather than useful after a day exploring the Valley of the Kings. A snack and drinks service is provided.
