An original Wallawwa (ancestral estate), the property is set in stunning gardens and has been renovated into an award winning luxury boutique hotel. Once the Head Chieftain of Galle’s country residence and part of the RAF’s headquarters during WW2, the Wallawwa’s history shines through the sensitive renovations and you really do feel like you have stepped back in time. Although just 15 minutes from the airport, this tropical oasis transports you right into the heart of Sri Lanka with delicious food, wonderful and friendly staff and laid back atmosphere.
There are 18 rooms including interconnecting options for families and the indulgent and vast two bedroom Mountbatten Suite, complete with private pool. The Z Spa has a selection of wonderful treatments and is the ideal place to relax and de-compress but if you are feeling more adventurous there is also an array of local experiences to enjoy. The food here really is exceptional and a traditional Sri Lankan is highly recommended but if you are looking for something lighter then perhaps try some fresh fish, direct from the nearby market at Negombo. Much of the produce served is home grown and comes direct from the carefully cultivated fruit and vegetable garden and a tour with one of the gardeners is a real insight.
