The Detail

The 18th-century building, which is home to Riad Kniza, has been in the same family for over 200 years. In particular, it has all the features of a traditional townhouse with its large central courtyard and roof terrace offering stunning views of Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains. The charming host and owner is one of the city’s renowned antique dealers and has been a professional guide for over thirty years. As a result, this ensures a fabulously adorned riad with some of the best insider knowledge of the city available to guests.

Rooms

The eleven bedrooms and suites surround the three open courtyards.  They have beautifully decorated using Morocco’s rich colours and textures. Most rooms have open fireplaces and comfortable seating areas. Consequently, this makes your room a wonderfully homely place to retreat to at the end of the day. Marjana and L’Orientale are the two Deluxe Rooms, both different but exquisitely decorated. In addition, Samar and Qamar, the two Superior Deluxe Rooms are more spacious and have seating areas and open fireplaces. The two Junior Suites, Johara and Loubana, both have separate living rooms and cosy open fireplaces. Additionally, the four Senior Suites, Ambar, Kenza, Yakout and Sultan, are extremely spacious. For the ultimate indulgence, the Royal Suite, Bahia, is both the largest and grandest in the riad. Furthermore, all rooms have air-conditioning, satellite TVs and WiFi.

Dining & Facilities

You can dine in one of the various salons, or indeed on the roof terrace.  The cuisine is largely Moroccan, allowing you to explore the local culinary tradition’s many flavours and aroma. The chef can give guests a half-day cookery course to take home some of the secrets of creating the perfect Moroccan meal.

The riad’s spa area features a traditional hammam and massage rooms. Furthermore, there is a lovely internal swimming pool for cooling off in the day’s heat.

Millis Potter Insight

Firstly, Riad Kniza  is perfect if you are looking for a truly Moroccan experience. The architecture and atmosphere is Moorish, yet hasn’t lost a sense of luxury and comfort. Sometimes, a really Moroccan style Riad lacks a sense of luxury, yet at Kniza is really comfortable. Furthermore, it is a collection of three riads, so you don’t feel constricted with the space. There is a lovely rooftop terrace, and the service and food is superb.
