Ideally suited to honeymooners and families wanting a few days of pampered relaxation, A Beach Symphony is an exclusive small hideaway in Marari with direct access to one of Kerala’s most idyllic beaches. Here you’ll find just four secluded and beautifully renovated traditional fishermen’s cottages, fitted out in Kerala style with gorgeous soft textiles and antiques. Each has a different colour theme, but all are decorated with warmth and great attention to detail, coming with carved teak beds, a private beachfront garden, spacious bathrooms with a rainforest shower (three of them open-air) and a verandah with loungers and a hammock. Two of the cottages come with an additional bed for children, and one also has a private plunge pool.
Your Belgian hosts, Jan and Christel, are very skilled at putting you at ease and helping you unwind, aided by a gorgeous turquoise swimming pool that offers safer swimming than you’ll find in the Arabian Sea. While A Beach Symphony does not have a bar or restaurant, fabulous delicately spiced dishes featuring the best of the day’s catch along with accompanying beer or wine is served to you either on your verandah, at a candle-lit table set out in your garden or in a small dining pavilion.
Although relaxation is the name of the game at A Beach Symphony, there is plenty to do should you wish. The property is excellent situated for gentle explorations of the Kerala backwaters, and you can borrow a bicycle and pedal along the coast to the village of Mararikulam to visit its traditional weaving, coir-making and fishing communities. There are plenty of temples to discover, a nearby bird sanctuary and you may also be inspired to visit a local school sponsored by your hosts. If that’s all too much, then simply take a long stroll along the beach and watch for dolphins, or indulge in an expert Ayurvedic treatment at one of the many local centres.
