Al Hamra & Misfat Al Abryeen
Al Hamra is one of Oman’s oldest and most traditional villages, and is a great place to see the traditional architecture of old Oman – mud construction houses, some are hundreds of years old but still standing and all have intricately carved wooden doors, the signature of the region. Misfat Al Abryeen (sometimes shortened and spelt Misfah) is another village close to Al Hamra that acts as a base for many of the superb walks in the region, but is well worth visiting if you don’t have time for a walk. Visit the superb Beit Al Safa museum, housed in a 400-year old house. You won’t need a 4×4 to get there, and the town is famous for its terraced sequence of stone houses. Here you will be guided by a local villager for an hour through the village explaining the history and culture of Misfat Al Abryeen.
