Mihir Garh means Sun’s Fortress, and was opened in 2009 as a modern version of a desert fort by the same owners as nearby Rohet Garh, famed for their stable of Marwar horses. It was constructed with sandstone, and softly blends in with the surrounding countryside. The suites are delightful, using rich and bold colour schemes set against white-washed walls and antique furniture. There are five Alishaan Suites located on the ground floor and have courtyards with plunge pools. Upstairs you find the Shandaar Suites, with infinity spa pools. Expect all the mod-cons such as flatscreen TVs, air-con, DVD players and mini bars. All bathrooms have a separate shower and bathtub.
Meals are very much a bespoke affair, with chefs discuss your preferences beforehand and rustle up exactly what you want. Breakfast is served beside the main pool. You can head off into the desert to visit the local Bishnoi tribes, or head off into Jodhpur to visit the fort and markets.
