The owners of the working Horathapola Estate, an hour’s drive north east from the airport, have recently converted the property into a peaceful guesthouse offering just 3 rooms. One of them is a two-bedroom family suite and all of them have polished wood floors, white linens and are full of original antiques. During your stay, travel around the estate in a traditional bullock cart learning about the workings of the coconut grove and about the other crops grown on the property. The pool is large and lovely to laze by whilst recovering from your flight and get your first – or last – taste of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine here with the delicious curries served in authentic clay pots.
