It is all rather fun getting to the Amankora Punakha as you have to cross the suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River where a buggy awaits to whisk you off into the delights of the best Aman lodge in Bhutan (in our opinion). The lodge makes use of a old farmhouse where you find the reception areas and dining room. In the upstairs rooms you find small relaxation areas, perfect to sit back and read a book. As Punakha is at a lower elevation, al fresco dining can be arranged in the main courtyard.
The rooms are contained within three rammed-earth buildings adjacent to the old farmhouse and offering views of the valley and surrounding orchard. The large rooms are similar to the other Aman lodges, so expect wood-panelled interiors, traditional wood-burner (bukhari), king-size bed and free-standing bathtub and separate shower.
There is also a wonderful spa with two treatment rooms, steam room and yoga room. There is much to see and do in Punakha, and just a simple walk through the nearby paddy-fields which overlook the Mo Chhu River is a wonderful experience.
