Amankora Punakha

It is all rather fun getting to the Amankora Punakha as you have to cross the suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River, where a buggy awaits to whisk you off into the delights of the best Aman lodge in Bhutan (in our opinion). The lodge makes use of an old farmhouse where you find the reception areas and dining room. In the upstairs rooms, you find small relaxation areas, perfect for sitting back and reading a book. As Punakha is at a lower elevation, al fresco dining can be arranged in the main courtyard.

The rooms are contained within three rammed-earth buildings adjacent to the old farmhouse and offering views of the valley and surrounding orchard. The large rooms are similar to the other Aman lodges, so expect wood-panelled interiors, a traditional wood-burner (Bukhari), a king-size bed, a free-standing bathtub, and a separate shower.

There is also a wonderful spa with two treatment rooms, a steam room and a yoga room. There is much to see and do in Punakha, and just a simple walk through the nearby paddy fields, which overlook the Mo Chhu River, is a wonderful experience.
