The Detail
Al Moudira is positioned in a quiet village on the West Bank of the Nile, on the opposite bank to the city of Luxor, and therefore close to the Valley of the Kings. It sits within an 8-hectare garden oasis, that in itself is an attraction. Fruit trees, jasmine, hibiscus and palms intermingle with the 54 rooms and suites. The owner, Zeina Aboukheir, is a photographer and jewellery designer and you can tell that her sense of style is on show around almost every corner.
The rooms have all be individually designed and furnished. You’ll see hand-painted murals inspired by the murals you see in the Valley of the Kings. Often, the rooms have high-vaulted ceilings and are quite simply vast. You enter through small communal courtyards, and then through your large wooden door. All around you are stunning floor tiles, Arabic arches, and cosy sitting areas. The beds are often draped in mosquito nets and come fitted with luxury Egyptian linen. The bathrooms feature showers and huge baths.
You start your day with breakfast, alfresco, in the main courtyard. Lunch is taken here, or down by the pool. Before dinner, head to the sitting-room bar for a refreshing G&T before returning the courtyard where the sound of soft jazz greets you as you order from their al la carte menu.
