Staying at Warwick Gardens is like stepping back in time, to when the English tea planters populated the region. The property is just a short drive from Nuwara Eliya, the quintisentially English enclave of the tea hills, and you are surrounded by some of Sri Lanka’s finest natural scenery from tea fields to mountains. The Jetwing group have restored the property to its former glory, with plenty of antiques and original furniture throughout whilst bringing the standards of comfort right up to date. Guests are invited to make themselves at home, to wander into the kitchen to see what the chef is cooking for dinner or to knock out a few tunes on the baby grand piano in the drawing room.
Millis Potter Insight
It is a natural instinct to want to step into our ancestor’s shoes and understand what colonial life was like for them and there is no better place to do this than at Warwick Gardens. There is so much to do and see in the area from visiting the sacred Adam’s Peak mountain to visiting the tea factories or in April you can even bet on a horse in the Nuwara Eliya races, a remant of the colonial era. The luxurious accommodation reflects the rich history of the Nuwara Eliya area and the attentive service makes you feel right at home. This is a great property for families as there is a large lawn for children to run about on plus learning about the tea production can be made fun for the young ones. The chef consults with you about what you would like to eat each day and the ingredients are all sourced from the abundant local produce.
