There are just eight rooms at Les Jardins De Skoura, so you feel a sense of getting away from it all. You will find the most idyllic gardens, packed with ancient olive trees, vines, sunflowers, apricot and pomegranate trees. The owner, Caroline, restored this former farmhouse into an understated yet chic off-the-beaten-track gem.
The rooms are all spacious and have comfortable alcoves, Arabic arches and high ceilings. There is a lovely understated style and dashes of colour from locally-made rugs and cushions.
Let’s turn to the rooms. Firstly, there is one smaller Standard Room (Tahouna) with an en-suite shower and a small living area. Secondly, the Superior Rooms are more extensive, with space for an extra bed, and two (Mechmech and Hàaneb) can interconnect if you are travelling as a family. Finally, the three suites have their separate living room. The Altas Suite is upstairs and has its private terrace. Downstairs, Saguia leads out to its patio, whilst Jnan looks out to the garden but doesn’t have outdoor space.
Dining takes place in the gardens and at night, lit by candlelight. What’s more, we loved the homemade olive oil and the indulgent set-menu four-course dinners.
At the bottom of the garden, you will find a delightful unheated outdoor pool. Within the grounds are inviting hammocks where you can spend a few hours reading. This area in Morocco is known as the ‘Land of the Kasbahs’, and there is much to see and do. You can take simple walks around the local palm groves to more lengthy day-treks.
