Chattra Sagar is an ideal one-night stop if you don’t fancy the long journey all the way from Jaipur to Jodhpur in one go. It also means you can escape the cities, and have a day of just being away from it all. There are just 13 tents at Chhatra Sagar, two of which are located on top of a nearby hillock. Each year, the Henna painters come in after the monsoon and decorate the tents with elaborate designs. They have en-suite slate bathrooms with hot showers and all rooms have comfortable beds. At the front you have your own sitting area, complete with rattan chairs overlooking the lake. None of the tents are air-conditioned as the camp closes during the hotter summer months. Chhatra Sagar is well-known for its amazing cuisine, all sourced from the fields nearby and dinners are generally taken al fresco on the terrace. You can opt for an immersive walk through the local village gaining a wonderful insight into local rural Rajasthani culture and customs. Birdwatchers will love this area, and they arrange a guided tour.
