The Detail
Bagan Lodge is located just outside of New Bagan on the road to Nyaung U and close to the main archeological site to the north of the hotel. The grounds are spacious, containing two swimming pools and a collection of canvas topped villas. There is something of a safari feel about them.
Beyond the main lobby you will find the first of the two large pools (20m x 9m) and is surrounded by the restaurant, Tiffin Box, the Pool Bar and the Lobby Lounge Bar. Another pool is located at the far side of the gardens and is slightly larger and quieter. A dip in a large pool is always appreciated after a long day exploring the expansive Bagan temples! Cuisine is a mix of Burmese and Western fare, and the Pool Bar is great to sip a well deserved cocktail in the evening after exploring Bagan.
The 82 villas are located in the gardens, and can be accessed on buggies. They have a nice porch at the front where you can sit-out and have a cup of tea, or something stronger. The rooms are really rather spacious, using earthy colours and stylish fixtures and fittings. The large bathrooms are located at the back of the villa, complete with rainforest showers (and excellent water pressure), his and hers washbasins and a separate bathtub, ideal for a long soak after your temple visits. They villas also interconnect so ideal if you are travelling on a family holiday to Burma. There is a spa comprising eight treatment rooms.
