Tiger Tops were the original pioneers of luxury, yet eco-friendly wildlife experiences when they opened their Jungle Lodge in the 1960s. Tharu Lodge is located just outside the park in the buffer area (all lodges located with the park were forced to close a few years ago). It is designed as a local Tharu longhouse set within lovely gardens that also feature a luxury tented camp. The lodge has an extensive renovation in 2013, taking it right up to date in terms of comfort and quality. All fan-cooled rooms feature en-suite bathrooms and you can also opt for one of the twelve luxury tents, complete with attached bathrooms. The food is delightful, with much of the ingredients sourced from its own organic garden. You can opt to dine alfresco beside the main swimming pool or on your own veranda. Also within the grounds are tennis courts and a host of snug little hammocks where you can kick back and read a book in between safaris.
Tiger Tops is all about the wildlife experience, and Chitwan is unique in that it offers a diverse way of exploring the park. Opt for a jeep drive, walking safari, river cruise down the Narayan River or on elephant back. Chitwan is famous for its one-horned rhino, marsh-mugger crocodile, elusive big cats and almost 900 species of birdlife. The guides at Tiger Tops are absolutely second to none and they are experts in offering a superb wildlife experience. You can also explore the local area, best explored on a traditional bullock cart to visit local villages and in particular the school that is supported by the lodge.
