The Strand Cruise

Cruising between Bagan and Mandalay over three or four nights, the Strand is a welcome addition to the range of luxury cruise boats which operate on the Irrawaddy. It is the sister property of the famous Strand Hotel in Yangon and offers a contemporary, yet classic experience.

The cabins are comfortably furnished with polished teak flooring, light airy colours and have the expected mod-cons such as flatscreen TVs and en-suite bathrooms. They lead in with the Deluxe Cabins, featuring twin beds, and have floor-to-ceiling windows opening out onto a juliete balcony. They are a touch on the small side, being only 16.5 square metres. Up from that you have the larger Strand Cabins (which we generally say you should opt for, at 23 square metres). They have an additional sitting area with a sofa and a small dressing area giving you ample space. The State Suites have larger windows and better views, and are located on the Upper Deck. The top Strand Suites are located on the Upper Deck and are forward facing offering the best views.

The Upper Deck is well though-out offering a swimming pool with sun loungers at one end, and a sun terrace at the other with a lounge bar between them. You can easily pick up a cocktail and simply watch the magic of the Irrawaddy unfold in front of you.

Dining on the Strand Cruise takes place on the Upper Deck you will find the Strand Restaurant and al fresco on the Sun Deck. The main restaurant has superb floor-to-ceiling windows, maximising views of the river. They often include barbecues and wine tastings. All meals and house drinks are included in the price. There is a wellness area with two treatment rooms as well as small gym complete with weights and treadmills. All sightseeing is included on the cruise such as the main highlights of Mandalay, Ava, Mingun, Sagaing and Bagan. We can arrange a private guide at an additional cost.
