It’s so sad that few travellers make their way into the Thar Desert because of time constraints, but if you can eek out a few more days in Rajasthan, you will be thoroughly rewarded. The Serai is the sister property of Sher Bagh in Rathambore and Jawai in Bera and the Serai retains the same amazing attention to detail, immaculate service and stunning cuisine. There are 21 en-suite luxury tents at the Serai, all the same size and designed in a colonial style, complete with campaign furniture and lovely little touches like furnishing the tents with picnic hampers and ornate stone camels. The en-suite bathrooms feature large showers and luxury toiletries. For even more of the wow factor, upgrade to the Luxury Suites, complete with their own walled courtyard and private plunge pool. The top-suite is the Royal Tented Suite with larger pool, private spa and a dining tent.
There is main pavilion tent at the centre of the camp where you find the dining room, reception, sitting room and bar. Al fresco dining is of course possibly, and indeed encouraged. Guests usually migrate to the camp fire where a bar is set up and you can share stories with your fellow guests as the starts appear above the desert. By day you have the option of a dip in the main pool, or relax over a spa treatment
Naturally, you will probably want to visit Jaisalmer which is about an hours drive in each direction. We love taking a camel out into the desert, and even better why not combine this with a sundowner on the dunes as the sun sets. They even lay out a leather armchair and a bar for you. Now that is something you’ll never likely forget!
