The Detail
Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection is located close to Jomsom Airport, which has daily flights to Pokhara and onward connects to Kathmandu. You can opt to drive from Pokhara, taking about 7-8 hours and following the historic Annapurna Circuit trekking route. The lodge is a great base to explore the delights of this region, including holy Muktinath, Kagbeni and the beautiful lakes of Dhumba and Titi Lake. It’s probably worth spending at least three or four nights here, taking day treks into the local area each day. The area is known for its Tibetan and Buddhist culture – a great place to visit on a second-time trip to Nepal.
The lodge has just 29 rooms with en-suite bathrooms decorated with earthy tones, reddish wood finishing and exposed grey stone. The best bit are the floor-to-ceiling windows with ‘wow’ views. It remarkably comes with many mod-cons such as hair dryers, mini-bar, TV, telephone, WiFi and luxury toiletries.
The main restaurant at Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection, Cafe New Fort, draws ingredients from their 2000-tree orchard and five greenhouses. So expect to feast on fresh, organic cuisine dishes drawing on local flavours. The best bit? You also have floor-to-ceiling windows with those amazing views.
The Fossil Bar at Moksha Mustang again makes use of the views over the Kali Gandaki Valley, the deepest in the world. It is a perfect place to kick back after a day of walking.
The Lowa Spa features steam and sauna rooms and a hot spring pool to alleviate those aching muscles after a day hike in the Nepalese Himalaya.
Shinta Mani Mustang can offer a range of experiences. We suggest a range of three or four amazing day hikes in the local area, and we can also arrange horse riding, cycling, yoga, archery and rock climbing. Moksha can also be used as a stepping stone for heading deeper into remote Mustang, and you can also land at Jomson by helicopter.
Millis Potter Insight
Any trip to Mustang is a must for those who know Nepal really well. It has a unique Buddhist culture, and it is far more off-the-beaten-track than the areas in the Annapurna Region. You can fly in or back from Jomson, and do the long, yet rewarding drive in from Pokhara to make it more of a journey. In terms of comfort, the lodge is superb, and a superb new addition to what Nepal can offer a little further into its magical interior.
