The Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp is the most comfortable of the options set within the dunes of the Erg Chebbi. There are just 15 tents here for a start, and you can have the chance of having your private camp of up to five tents should you so wish.
Let’s start with how you get to Merzouga. For those confused, Merzouga is a small town close to the dramatic Erg Chebbi dunes. There are a few good lodges here, should you not fancy a night under canvas. It then takes about 30 minutes to drive to the camp in a 4×4. To reach Merzouga, it is a 9-hour drive from Fez, and about 10-11 hours from Marrakech, so you usually break the journey in Ouarzazate or Skoura. There is an airport in Errachidia, which has a flight twice a week from Casablanca, followed by a two-hour drive.
The tents are as comfortable as they can be. Inside you have a comfortable king-size bed, air-conditioning, sink, shower and private toilet. The highlight of your stay is to head off on camels at sunset into the dunes. You return to a delicious desert dinner and entertainment.
