Surrounding by a private 12-acre tea estate, Kahanda Kanda is the perfect base from which to spend days exploring the south coast of Sri Lanka. Rather than being tied to one particular beach, you can dip in and out of a range of coastal highlights, explore Galle for a day and then head back to the seclusion of this magical retreat.
There are just 10 rooms at Kahanda Kanda, all carefully designed by owner George Cooper who began with his private villa. He is an interior decorator by trade, and it shows. Timeless, yet contemporary, chic yet inspired. Most rooms are standalone villas – adorned with artefacts, framed prints and estate-facing private verandas. Three of them have their own pools and all rooms have air-conditioning, mini-bars and BOSE wireless speakers. Some even have outdoor showers.
There is a glorious swimming pool, a spa, yoga pavilion and gym. The dining pavilion is especially wonderful – kick-back to long lazy lunches and decadent dinners. Guest tends to mingle for early evening drinks, telling tales over cocktails with a house-party conviviality feel. Retreat back to your room for a nightcap on your veranda – what could be more special?
