Dev Shree was created by Shatrunjal and Bhavna of Deogarh Mahal fame who consulted their Guru and suggested they return to Deogarh and construct Dev Shree, which means ‘Our Home’. We certainly this most auspicious Guru to thank! Dev Shree is located in the sleepy village of Deogarh, mid-way between Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur making it a perfect pit-stop to allow for an immersive experience in rural, off-the-beaten track Rajasthan. Dev Shree only only seven lovely rooms and Shatrunjal and Bhavna will be your consummate hosts, showing off their little patch of India to the guests who stay with them. The construction of Dev Shree showcased the wonderful architectural styles of the local area, complete with intricately hand-carved pillars, breezy verandahs, marble floors and an amazing roof terrace. It gives such a nod to the past, but wonderfully embraces the present with the most comfortable of beds and showers that feel like you are under Niagara Falls. All the rooms lead out from an inner central courtyard, and onto the deep veranda on the other, it has been so cleverly designed. Detail and hospitality is all around you, from the use of lovely bespoke cutlery, perfectly laid table settings or the use of homemade marmalades or Fortum and Mason biscuits! The food is divine, using fresh produce as much as possible as well as making use of the local dairy next door. Old family recipes are rekindled, as well as offering a selection of western dishes ensuring what is served appeals to all palettes. It’s all about the slow life at Dev Shree, such as taking a walk in the countryside before having a picnic by the lake, taking a local steam train through the hills or heading up to nearby Gokul Fort for a sundowner. You just get to glimpse into this timeless corner of India is such a remarkable way. We definitely suggest two nights here, or more if you just want to slow down the pace of life and let the destination come alive. Shatrunjal and Bhavna are full of stories about this part of India and it is almost an honour to stay in their home and experience it all. In short, highly recommended!
