- A small ship, with only 25 cabins, so very exclusive
Launched in 2013, the Belmond Orcealla offers the most luxurious boating experience in Burma, and with its longer itineraries is ideal for a second-time traveller or those wanting to get more off-the-beaten track where no quality hotels exist. It has a more diverse selection of cruises, such as Yangon to Bagan and in the summer months go into remote Burma such as Monywa and Homalin (although it must be said it is monsoon during those months).
The Orcealla has just 25 staterooms, with a maximum of 50 guests being looked after by 58 crew. The cabins all have floor-to-ceiling windows that open, maximising the views of the river. They have Juliette balconies (ie where you can look out by not sit down, except for the two Balcony Suites). The Deluxe Cabins all have twin beds (and can interconnect) and are located on the Main Deck along with seven of the State Cabins. The State Cabins are larger, with a bigger window, en-suite bathroom and also have a sitting area and desk. Also on the Main Deck are the two Junior Suites which have front facing windows. You then find a further five State Cabins on the Upper Deck (although they can be slightly smaller in size) along with two suites, the Cinthe and Eugene and have the added advantage of being much larger and having a balcony. All cabins have state-of-the-art creature comforts such as flatscreen TVs, DVD players, iPod docking stations and Bulgari toiletries.
Meals are taken in the dining room on the Upper Deck, or for lunch on the Observation Deck. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, whilst dinner is a rather more ravishing affair with both Asian and Western options. All meals, house drinks and excursions are all included in the price.
Upstairs on the Observation Deck you find the fitness centre, spa and splash pool. More importantly some might say, you find the sun deck where you can sit back and watch the world go by. Close at hand is the lounge and bar where you can ask for much needed refreshment!
