With similar architecture as the other Amankora properties in Bhutan, the Thimphu Lodge is usually your first stop on a tour of Bhutan, leaving the highlights of Paro to conclude. It is located a few minutes drive from the centre of Thimphu, meaning you avoid the barking dogs, which tend to raise their voices at night!
The large white-washed buildings are striking, and inside you see clever use of wood-panelling, which creates an intimate and minimalist feel. The rooms feature freestanding bathtubs, large king-sized beds and cosy seating areas next to the floor-to-ceiling windows. A central Bukhari (wood-burner) keeps you toasty at night. The communal areas contain a lounge and dining room offering communal dining. There is a choice of local or international cuisine, and all meals and drinks are included in the room cost.
