The Detail

The luxury Vivanta by Taj Connemara, set among the ramparts of an old Dutch fort, and within easy striking distance of the famous shore temple at Mahabalipuram, is Chennai’s only heritage hotel. Rooms have a fresh classical décor and are oases of calm and relaxation, overlooking lush gardens and a specatcular shaded swimming pool.

Dining at Taj Connemara is superb, with both Asian and continental cuisine served round the pool, while the signature Jiva spa offers a fabulous range of holistic treatments. Yoga and meditation classes are also offered. While in Chennai, be sure to visit Fort St George, an evocative reminder of British Empire days, and have your fortune told on Marina Beach. There are also many superb South Indian temples to visit, including Kapaleeshwar and, of course, the remarkable shore temple at Mahabalipuram further down the coast.
