The Detail
Converted from am original manor house into a luxury boutique hotel in 2006, The Kandy House is still the area’s finest boutique hotel. The nine elegant rooms feature hard wood floors, luxurious bedding and contemporary bathrooms with claw foot tubs, but no TVs ensure you appreciate the natural surroundings. Set on a 6 acres forested estate, yet just 20 minutes from the centre of Kandy, there is plenty to do including visiting the local village and paddy fields by bike, take in the historic Temple of the Tooth or indulge in one of their signature massages. The strikingly architecture of the building is surrounded by jungle and amongst this you will find the beautiful pool, ideal for a dip after a day of sightseeing. Dining ranges from Asian fusion to traditional Sri Lankan curries usually enjoyed with a cocktail on the verandah.
Millis Potter Insight
A lot of smaller properties in the area such as The Kandy House don’t feature swimming pools, but here the infinity jungle pool is a delight. The property retains its heritage and design whilst bringing the furniture and fittings up to date and it is a privilege to stay in such a beautiful historic building. A real plus is the incredibly peaceful location and you would never guess that you were only 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Kandy. This proximity to the town allows you to easily explore the area without having to spend too much time on winding roads which can be an issue with other properties in the area. The Kandy House only accepts children over 12 so it doesn’t work for all families, but makes it the perfect retreat for those wanting a tranquil oasis yet within a short drive of all Kandy has to offer.
