The Detail

The Hyatt Regency overlooks Boudhanath Stupa and is located to the east of Kathmandu, also close to Pashupatinath Temple and the road leading to Bhaktapur. You will of course have to drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square which is located to the north-west of the city, or Patan to the south. If you are wanting a host of facilities that you expect from a 5* hotel in Kathmandu, then the Hyatt is what you are looking for. It features an outdoor pool, three tennis courts, spa, fitness centre and five restaurants and bars. The Hyatt is often used as a final night’s stop on a tour of Nepal given its proximity to the airport.

We heavily recommend opting for a Boudhanath View Room which is the same as the Standard Room but is located at the front of the hotel. They offer traditional hotel style rooms with TVs, room service and minibar alongside an ensuite bathroom which features a separate bathtub and shower.  They also have interconnecting rooms for families. The Regency Club rooms are the same size, yet you have access to their Regency Club lounge and are on a higher floor. The Regency Suite has a separate living area, and can connect with an adjacent room.

The Hyatt Regency’s signature restaurant is Rox, serving continental cuisine and also has the Rox Bar. There are three offer options serving light meals at the Cafe, Lounge and Terrace.

The hotel has a large outdoor swimming pool, large spa and fitness centre, tennis courts and various boutiques.

Millis Potter Insight

The Regency Hyatt really does what it says on the tin, a really comfortable international standard of hotel that offers what you expect from hairdryers, 24 hour room service, coffee makers, TVs and even ironing boards. It is also useful if you are travelling as a family and need interconnecting rooms. Many guests stay at the Hyatt because it is close to the airport, and if you are just having a final night or two having potentially seen the city itself during your first visit. Alternatives could be to head up to the rim of the Kathmandu Valley and stay in Dhulkihel or Nagarkot, the Dwarikas Resort there being the top pick. The rest of the international hotels are generally located along Durbar Marg close to what was the Royal Palace (Yak & Yeti & Hotel Annapurna), although they are far more dated and in need of desperate renovation!
