The Detail
Gurung Lodge is perched on a ridge over the Modi Khola Valley at an altitude of 4,650 feet / 1,417 metres and is easily accessed from the road-head at Lumle which is about a one hour walk. You can combine Gurung Lodge with a range of other villages in the Annapurna Region such as Dhampus (five hour trek), Birethanti (one hour), Ghandruk (six hours) and Lhandruk (four hours). Gurung Lodge is an ideal place to link Ghandruk or Lhandruk with Dhampus.
The lodge has a range of standalone cottages each with two rooms opening out on to the lovely lawn and gardens where you will see yellow orchids and red lollies flutter in the breeze as your view then looks out to the spectacle of Annapurna South the the tip of the famous Fishtail next to it. The rooms at Gurung have high beamed ceilings and en-suite slate bathrooms with hot showers (although they are solar powered so best to take a shower at the end of the afternoon). Little touches are there in abundance from adding down jackets and hats in your room, to little bottles of shower gel and shampoo, receiving chilled lemonade on arrival and waking up to steaming Nepali tea at dawn overlooking the mountains. If its been a long walk, why not take them up on the offer of the foot massage before heading to the main dining room to sit around the fire with a well deserved drink. Meals are wonderfully prepared and served by the amazing staff of Gurung Lodge.
