The Detail
What makes Satpura unique? It is simply the range of diverse wildlife experiences that you can do here, from traditional jeep safaris, elephant rides, night safaris and walking safaris. Add to that the chance to head off on canoes or on bike and you have such an action packed few days in front of you. Admittedly, the tigers are a little shy in Satpura, but you will see lots of deer, gaur, nilgais, boar, crocodile and monkeys. There are over 330 species of bird, and the park is exceptionally picturesque. It works perfectly in combination with parks like Pench if you want to see tiger, but there is always at chance at Satpura!
Forsyth Lodge is a lovely charming wildlife lodge, with cottages fanning out from the main lodge. Traditionally built using packed straw, mud and cow dung they blend old and new perfectly. Inside you have super-comfy beds, antique furniture and modern en-suite bathrooms with rain-forest showers. Outside you have a lovely veranda with a day-bed, and if you are adventurous, four of the cottages have a traditional outdoor machaan where you can sleep under the stars under a mosquito net. The food is delightful, serving up local and international dishes in a communal camp atmosphere, often on a bush-dinner basis under the stars. A bar is set up on a traditional bullock cart and often the stories and laughter last long into the evening as guests get to know each other.
