Sri Lanka’s Hill Country

In the heart of Sri Lanka you find the Hill Country, known for its rolling tea plantations and national parks. Anyone a tour of Sri Lanka will delight at driving through this amazing scenery, and you can even take a train from Kandy to make it all the more special. At the centre of the Hill Country, you find the old colonial British hill-station of Nuwara Eliya, home to amazing architecture and old-school hotels, perfect for a drink or two. Colonial bungalows are opening up in  the hills around, restoring them to their former glory and opening as boutique hotels. You can either just take gentle walks in the country, maybe pop into a Tea Factory to see how tea is produced, or just sit back and enjoy the views around you. However, if you like to get out and about, this area is like Alice in Wonderland’s rabbit hole. For adventure lovers, a walk across Horton Plains and seeing the dramatic World’s End is a must. A climb up Adam’s Peak offers the best views in Sri Lanka, dramatically coming alive at dawn. The scenery around Ella, Bandarawella and Hapitale is equally as inspiring, and we can tailor an itinerary to make the most of being in the hills on a tour of Sri Lanka. In the lower hills you will find Sri Lanka’s last true rainforest in Sinharaja. Up from there you have the Hill Country’s adventure playground at Kithugalla where you go try your hand at white-water rafting.
