Gangtey & Phobjikha Valley
Gangtey is a small village located overlooking the stunning Phobjikha Valley in Bhutan and is between the towns of Trongsa and Punakha. This area is one or the more rural places you will stay at on a tour of Bhutan, where local culture and traditions have been charmingly maintained. The valley is home to the migratory Black-Neck Crane, which makes the valley home from November to March each year. There is a range of excellent trekking options in Gangtey, taking about 4-5 hours each and allowing you to get into the surrounding villages, many home to yak herders. The superb Gangtey festival takes place in October.
